Award: Foundation Degree in Early Years
Course ContentThis part-time course prepares students for a range of careers in childcare at supervisory management level.
Within some educational establishments it may support employment as a registered teacher. Students wishing to progress to teacher training should have GCSE English,Mathematics and a Science at grade C or above.
There are 10 Compulsory Units and 3 Specialist Units.
The Specialist Units are:
- 1) Senior practitioner working with children in the early years foundation stage
- 2) Teaching assistants
- 3) Playwork
- 1) Provide an appropriate pathway for gaining Early Years Professional Status (EYPS)
- 2) Provide students with a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills required to succeed in the competitive employment market
- 3) Develop an individuals knowledge and skills in childcare and education
- 4) Provide enhanced access onto some degree courses
A range of methods is used including assignments, projects, case studies and practical exercises in the workplace. A work-related, problem-solving, research-based approach is used.
Entry Requirements
Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject e.g Btec National, Advanced GNVQ or VCE, NVQ3 in Early Years, Diploma in Childcare (Nursery Nursing or NNEB) or 2 A-levels and four GCSEs in relevant subjects,grade c or above.
Students not currently in employment, but with relevant work experience, undertake placements during the course
Accelerated progression onto relevant degree course.
Certain universities may give you exemption from units within related degree courses. Recent students who have joined the final year of an Early Childhood Studies degree, gained promotion or new employment
